Hannes Minnaar - Gabriel Fauré - Nocturne No. 13 in B Minor, Op.119

Thirteen Nocturnes and as many Barcarolles form the core of the collected output of Gabriel Urbain Fauré (1845-1924) for the piano. Night-time meditations, then, along with inspiration drawn from rippling water (the origins of the barcarolle lie in the songs sung by Venetian gondoliers and the word itself comes from the Italian ‘barca’, a boat). Along with some impromptus, preludes and other works, one might rapidly gain the impression of a delightful collection of salon music, whose titles may actually display the influence of Chopin (Fauré was even to write a Mazurka). But this music is so very much more than pretty salon music. In the intimacy of these genres, Fauré succeeded time and again in nothing short of exposing his very soul. And the French composer’s style is entirely his own – original and personal – from the first note to the last.

Here's the ultimate world weary, sophisticated song of the 1930s. I'd like to know more about the origin of this one!

Hoarse and wheezy;
You clutch at ev'ry passing straw,
You dope and drink
While those who were your friends before
Just watch you sink"

Nina Simone Sings Ellington (1962)

Originally released in 1962, here Nina pays homage to the man most responsible for bringing jazz music out of the shadows and into every home in America. Duke Ellington changed our country's very cultural fabric, while giving us a hugely improved soundtrack to go along with it. Simone, a classically trained pianist herself, aligns herself with this great American tradition, adding new layers of meaning to standards like "I Got It Bad (And That Ain't Good)" and "Satin Doll", in a way that always left fans clamouring for more.

The cover photo features just Nina Simone's head in full colour. Nina says about this picture in her autobiography 'I Put A Spell On You' (1992) that the picture was originally a full size picture of Simone's body. However, because she was pregnant at that time, the photographer tried various positions to hide Nina's stomach. He failed in this most probably, and that is why just Simone's head was cut out of the full picture.

A leftover shot of Nina from this session, featuring a pose from her chest up, was later used on her 1966 album, Nina Simone with Strings.

Gene Shanzo, is a pianist, self-taught guitarist and composer from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Being a avid cinematographer in his personal career, Gene is inspired by the deep relativity and definite interwoven tapestry between Audio and Visual. Gene inspires to create music that tells a story of its own, always encouraging the audience to one's own interpretation and visual imagination of instrumental music.

His debut album, titled "Remember me, Clarity", is scheduled to be launched on 1st December 2015. Currently available for online pre-order, the debut album will be available worldwide as a Digital Release only.

The first single, "Walter the Wayfarer", from the upcoming album, is released online on 31st August 2015.

Strongly influenced by the sound of classical music since he was a child, by virtue of his late father, who was a avid pianist and former-choir singer, who is also a motivation for Gene's rediscovery into piano music in 2014, subsequently leading to the creation of his debut album "Remember me, Clarity".

Beginning at a young age, Gene was enrolled in the Yamaha School of Music for piano lessons. To which he dropped out without completing his 2nd Grade, rebelling to pursue a self-taught journey of classical, acoustic, and electric guitar. Which led to his teenage and post-teenage years of Gene fanatically pursuing a journey in rock and roll, playing in various ineffective bands over the years until meeting a group of like minded individuals in 2008. They proceeded to form a strong Progressive Rock group and performed on various stages and venues from Malaysia to Singapore, shooting a music video, and successfully producing a full length album in 2013. But their album journey was short lived as that band disbanded soon after. It was also almost around the same time that Gene suffered the loss of his father, which deeply affected him in his ways and thoughts of life.

He began to grew weary of performing rock music, and found solace in the peace and serene sound of the old piano in his home.

Having a tendency to create original guitar tunes ever since his band years, Gene began writing his own piano music, which lead to the birth of "The Mellifluous", a track of his upcoming debut album. But Gene realized that he needed more to just piano music, as he was also much influenced by visual, film and directors, being a cinematographer and video editor himself.

So in late 2014, he began to experiment and self-learn about Audio Production, setting a dateline and schedule for himself. He recalls amusingly that it felt like it was "attending a crash course in audio engineering school, but doing it by yourself. A lone student".

Soon after, in early 2015, Gene began writing his debut album. He currently aims to provide more passionate and original music for the film and gaming industry.

Abschied (Farewell) from 'Waldszenen Op.82' by Robert Schumann, Hal Freedman, pianist

from the Cd album 'Voices of the Woods'
http://www.cdbaby.com/halfreedman3

The Romantic poetry of the nineteenth century was rich with the imagery and symbolism of the forest. It was often expressed through music, such as in the beautiful "Waldszenen," or "Forest Scenes," inspired by some of Schumann's favorite poems. This collection of nine musical vignettes evokes the forest as a place of mystery and the unknown, as well as a sanctuary of safety and peace. Composed in 1848-1849, toward the end of a life cut short, it is documented that Schumann "cherished" these pieces.
