Franz Schubert (1797-1828)

Piano Trio No. 1 in B-flat major, D. 898 (1827)

4. Rondo (Allegro vivace)

Performed by the Beaux Arts Trio: Menaham Pressler (Piano), Daniel Guilet (Violin), and Bernard Greenhouse (Violoncello).

"[Schubert's Piano Trio in B-flat major] is optimistic and immediately accessible to the perceptive listener. One is unaware of the tensions and spiritual anguish expressed in comments such as this: 'My creations come into being through musical insight and through the pain I suffer; those born of pain alone seem to please the world least.' The main theme of the first movement, intoned by unison violin and cello and supported by emphatic dotted rhythms in the piano, quotes his song 'Des Sängers Habe'; Schubert still follows the outline of traditional sonata form, but replaces Beethoven's thematic dialectic with the continually varied repetition of the internally balanced theme. The second movement wavers between the character of a lullaby and a gondola song until the florid piano passages of the middle section provide a change: the delicately fashioned scherzo builds up to a merry waltz in the trio: and the ingenious final movement, though labelled 'Rondo,' breaks all the rules of this form; changes of metre surprise us again and again, and the movement culminates in a marvellous stretta, marked presto." - Uwe Kraemer

Johannes Brahms - Intermezzo Op. 117 No. 1 in E flat major

The 3 Intermezzi Op. 117 were composed in 1892 and are among the best-loved and most popular of Brahms' autumnal late piano output. On a smaller and more intimate scale than the surrounding sets of Op. 116, Op. 118 and Op. 119, the composer described these pieces as "lullabies to my sorrows". Here we find Brahms at his most tender and introspective, with only one outburst (in the third Intermezzo) of the characteristic Brahmsian fieryness. The Intermezzi were inspired by a Scottish poem from Herder's Volkslieder, and bear this inscription:

Schlaf sanft mein Kind, schlaf sanft und Schön!
Mich dauert's sehr, dich weinen sehn.

Sleep softly my child, sleep softly and well!
It hurts my heart to see you weeping.

CHOPIN - Nocturne No. 8 in D-flat Major Op.27 No.2
Performer : Frank Levy

The Chopin nocturnes constitute 21 pieces for solo piano written by Frédéric Chopin between 1827 and 1846. They are generally considered among the finest short solo works for the instrument and hold an important place in contemporary concert repertoire. Although Chopin did not invent the nocturne, he popularized and expanded on it, building on the form developed by Irish composer John Field.

The nocturnes numbered 1 to 18 were published during his life, in twos or threes, in the order of composition. Numbers 19 and 20 were actually written first, prior to Chopin's departure from Poland, but published posthumously. Number 20 was not originally entitled "nocturne" at all, but since publication in 1870 as such, is generally included with publications and recordings of the set. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nocturnes_%28Chopin%29

What a Fool Believes" is a song written by Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins. The best-known version was recorded by The Doobie Brothers (with McDonald singing lead vocals) for their 1978 album Minute by Minute. The single reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on April 14, 1979, remaining in that position for one week.[3] The song received Grammy Awards in 1980 for both Song of the Year and Record of the Year.

"What a Fool Believes" was one of the few non-disco No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 during 1979. The song lyrics tell a story of a man who is reunited with an old love interest and attempts to rekindle a romantic relationship with her before discovering that one never really existed.

Michael Jackson claimed to have contributed at least one backing track to the original Doobie Brothers recording, but was not credited for having done so

Edward Elgar - Salut d'Amour Op.12

Obra.-Salut d'Amour Op.12
Autor.- Edward William Elgar.

Escuchenla y comenten.
¡Suscrìbanse!
Gracias.

Georges Bizet - Carmen Suite No. 2 - Habanera

  • 11 tháng trước
The French composer Georges Bizet was born in 1838, the child of musical parents, who did a great deal to encourage his interest in music, distracting him from other pursuits by hiding books from him. In 1848 he entered the Conservatoire in Paris, where he became a pupil of the composer Gounod, while distinguishing himself as a pianist under Marmontel.

In 1857 Bizet won the Prix de Rome, the prize awarded to those young composers, painters and writers able to pass the rigorous scrutiny of the examining committee, and in accordance with the terms of the award was able to study in Rome. His return to Paris in 1860 was to bring disappointment. He had some success with earlier operas, but it was Carmen, a work that was enjoying its first run in Paris at the time of his death, that in the end had the profoundest effect on the public, arousing equal measures of enthusiasm and hostility.

Conductor: Alfred Scholz
Orchestra: London Festival Orchestra
