"My Dad" is a heartfelt song written by Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil specifically for an episode of "The Donna Reed Show". That episode is currently available on DVD in the season 5 collection of "Donna Reed". Jeff (Paul Petersen) has not been able to spend much time at all with his Dad, Alex Stone (Carl Betz) as Dr. Stone is constantly being pulled away from family time with sick calls and emergency situations. When Dr. Stone, Donna and Mary miss Jeff's musical performance at school due to one such emergency, Jeff is extremely disappointed. When the family shows up late - after the performance - Jeff's buddies encourage him to sing the song again - this time directly to his father and family. It is a touching moment for the Stone family and The Donna Reed Show. Paul Petersen does a fine job on this recording - which is arguably the best recording he released. The song became a sizeable hit for Paul, as a single on Colpix and as the lead song in the album pictured above.

This is a Country & Western song sung by Holly Dunn. The song is about a strict father who is very gentle and caring in another way.

The child who has grown up remembering seeing the calluses and blood on her father's hands due to the hard work as he was striving to keep the family fed. She then realised how she used to take her dad for granted.
